Border Patrol Arrested

By KGNS News

A Border Patrol agent is arrested this morning after officials say he crashed into a Laredo Police unit while under the influence. This is 31 year-old Richard Eric Rosales. His mug shot was taken after the crash near Del Mar and Rocio Road, in North Laredo. Police say the 31 year old agent was off-duty. However, reports add that after police checked him, they found his alcohol level to be .15, nearly twice the legal limit, which is .08. Rosales was arrested and taken to Webb County Jail.

Truly, this couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. (Can you sense my sarcasm?) What is up with these guys getting in hot water over silly stuff? I just read about another guy getting sacked up for going on a shooting frenzy. Definitely an embarrassment for Barry's administration.

Funny how every person that knows this person is commenting on how much of a nice guy he is... Bottom line is he broke the law (and a car) and should pay the price. Forgiveness is a funny thing. What would your comments be if it was not someone you knew. Or even if you did know him, what if he was not such an nice guy? What would your comments about this type of event be? People commit many crimes in this world some intentional some not, but they pay a price. I must agree with people when they say that as an agent he SHOULD be held to a highter standard. Frakly now a days anybody can be a BP agent as long as they haven't been caught doing anything else in the past. I remember when it was pretigious to be in an agent of any kind. Now it seems as though anybody can apply as long as you haven't been caught yet... Not saying they are all that way, but the standards sure have dropped...

Have you all not seen the news lately.. these branches in the past 12 months have brought more shame to Laredo, then most criminals.. heard of sex scandals with kids, car crashes, Breaking and Entering..so much needs to be done to our city.. And for those who say Just because some people make errors in judgement does not make them bad people" Then what does make them bad.. Had I ran over your son/daughter while drunk would you not hold that against me.. cause people make mistakes.. no matter how good my family can tell you I am or how much money I give the charities it does not make a difference.

"Realistically spreaking" shut your mouth and quit making it about BP agents, this is about this one person who made a poor judgment, everywhere you go you are gonna see police, judges, attorneys, DPS, sherriffs etc. doing something you may not agree with but it's not your position to do or say anything about it!!!!! So what is these people like to have fun too, aren't they human just like us all? Leave BP out of your comments because not ALL of them are the same and if they're off duty what they do is none of ANYBODY'S business, now if they were at a checkpoint ON DUTY partying while drugs were passing by or illegals were being flagged to pass THEN I WOULD COMPLAIN TOO, but that was hardly the issue so BACK OFF!!!

This is not the 1st time a law enforcement officer has been arrested for DUI and won't be the last. Unfortunately for this individual like other Border Patrol agents he will lose his job. With a felony conviction he will not be able to carry a weapon or work in the federal law enforcement field. 3 Border Patrol agents have been murdered within the past 3 yrs with very little media attention, the latest was Brian Terry. The hours and conditions they work under, alone in the desert searching for smugglers gangs and armed criminals are stresses very few people will ever know. Before judging maybe some folks should experience the life of a Border Patrol Agent. Maybe a little more public support would help relieve some of the stress these guys and gals are under.

As a Border Patrol Agents we are held to higher standards. We all make mistakes and thankfully no one got hurt (including the police officer). No matter what the deal is, we as Agents know what is right and what is wrong and we also know what the consequences will be. None of us should be surprised how this guy's name is being dragged through the mud. We all appreciate the people who have come on here and defended the Agent, but the whole situation is very disappointing. REMEMBER YOU ARE NOT ONLY REPRESENTING YOURSELF, BUT A WHOLE AGENCY...DON'T MESS IT UP! Thank you to the PD officer for doing your job, I mean there was no way of you helping him out...he crashed into you.

Most cops are alcoholics the job is extreamly stressful. Hey what about the bar that let him drive away drunk. Where are the police to cite them.

Nobody is saying he is a BAD person, he made some bad decisions. Decisions which should not be made by a 7 plus year veteran; someone who makes makes more than 70k a year, or someone who wears a badge/gun and is in the public eye. He subdued to alcohol, he is weak, maybe one day he'll subdue to the other side. You dont know. Some drug dealers are NICE GUYS, they take care of their towns, people, etc maybe they should get a break too. Not everyone will understand my satire, but SOME will. What an Idiot? He will go from border patrol to security guard. Let’s keep standards high for law enforcement personnel - fire this guy and use him as an example of what type officer will not be tolerated. Yes we all drink but driving and destroying property is very criminal. I agree that public officials MUST be held to a higher standard. Yes they are human but they still have to consider their actions before acting. Public officials are under constant scrutiny and have to exceed the level of behavior of the "average" citizen...that is why you take an oath of office; You swear that you will perform your duties and be an example to others. This means all the time, not just while in uniform. This guy clearly doesn't have the proper temperament for this job.

This guy made a mistake. Yes he did. But I know for a fact that this individual donates a great portion of his time and money to charities in the community. Just because some people make errors in judgement does not make them bad people. Laredo media loves to report stories like this because it has people talking about it. Why don't they report stories on how much money is contributed to charities by these federal employees? Or how many lives have been saved by agents? Why? Because people only want to hear the negative news stories.

Ok, so he's an off duty BP Agent and a good friend to some. That doesn't give him the right to drive drunk and cause accidents. He should be treated and punished like any normal citizen. He broke the law and now he has to pay for his mistake...period. I believe government employees get paid with our taxed dollars so we every right to voice our opinions when we see our money going to waste. I'm sure he goes thru orientation before starting his job so he knew the consequences of driving under the influence. Excuse me...anyone in their right mind knows that!

Dalia, the excuse of "think of the children" has been used far too often in this country to justify almost anything. From banned cribs (cribs, mind you, that were used by my grandmother and my parents) to warning lables on superman costumes noting that you will NOT fly like superman. "The children" line has also been used to take away freedom of speech, in the case of the white supremist making a KKK snowman, or a man cussing when his kaiak flipped over and was placed in jail, for using the F word.

Here we go again. Another "federal agent" setting a great example. I guess as long as they aren't made examples of, they will continue to break the law. I wonder how much longer do we have to deal with Representatives from the government like him? Whatever happened to their standards, that they are supposed to uphold and live up to? I guess when you have poor leadership to enforce the rules, people will continue to break the law. More than likely this guy will get a slap on the wrist and will be allowed to remain in uniform. Is this what they teach them at the academy? What if he had hit a vehicle with little ones onboard? How much longer do our citizens have to deal with this kind of behavior?
