Border Patrol Led on Chase Across Laredo

By KGNS News

It tonight's pro 8 news exclusive, Border Patrol agents raced down highway 35 in pursuit of a car full of narcotics just after 9 A.M. this morning. Pro 8 news reporter Patrick Nelson found himself in the middle of the action this morning. He has the story.

A citizen phone call at 9:15 Tuesday morning of a vehicle loaded with narcotics at the intersection of I-35 and Loop 20 led to a chase ending here in the 2600 block on Juarez. After gaining the support of the Laredo Police Department border patrol approached the blue Buick they had chased across Laredo finding the suspect inside with 6 bundles of marijuana weighing a total of 441 lbs. That is an estimated street value of over $350,000. Although the arrest gets this shipment of drugs off the streets, U.S. Border Patrol says they see chases like this all the time.

"This is a common case here on the border where a lot of people, people load up and they always seem to run. So its pretty common."

The suspect arrested in this case is an American young adult under 30 years of age. He has been transferee to the drug enforcement administration for questioning. Border Patrol says they continue to see cartels using young people involved in this type of drug trafficking.

"They take advantage of the young people who don't know the punishment for break these laws."

The seizure on Tuesday morning may not have happened had it not been for the phone call of a local citizen. Border Patrol says the community plays a big roll is helping to get the drugs of Laredo’s streets.

"We do get a lot of phone calls from citizens report. The community is highly involved in fighting crime with us. Basically they are our partners."

If you wish to make a report to border patrol of suspicious activity in your area you can contact the border patrol's citizen command center at 1-800-343-1994.
