People at the Border Town Flea Market got a scare today after a vendor finds a grenade in his merchandise. Laredo Police Department's Bomb Squad was called out to the scene. They picked up the grenade to inspect it at Highway 59's Rifle Range. They tell us the vendor purchased a load of goods out of Forth Worth and found the bomb in a box. However, a closer inspection showed the grenade was not explosive.
Sgt. Jorge Luna, from LPD Bomb Squad, explains, "It was a practice grenade. It looked real, but it was a fake grenade. There was nothing inside of it. It was hollowed out. We have to check it out because it was reported as a live grenade. When we got there, initially it did look like a live grenade. Apparently, upon a better inspection of it, once we opened it up, we determined it was not real."
This is the second time this week that the bomb squad gets called out. Just this Friday (November 15) they found a grenade in a backyard on Salinas Street.
