After quite a while, the City of Laredo and the Firefighters Association could come to a final agreement on their new contract.
Originally the contract ended last year, and at Monday’s City Council the City is expected to decide if they will sign off on the final agreement.
What’s on the table is a new contract that will be retroactive to compensate for those days of negotiations.
Effective immediately until September thirtieth of 2014 the Council is subject to approve:
A 3.25% salary increase for firefighters through the rank of captain, and a 2% increase for district chiefs, through rank of assistant chief.
This is for fiscal year 2011, 2012, and 2013.
For fiscal year 2014 there will be a 2% salary increase for all ranks.
In addition to salary increases the contract includes pension increase of 2.45%.

Bad time to be asking for more money. These "firemen" already have one of the best deals around Laredo! Can't belive the city fell for it? Drug test them anyway...

The way the economy is right now, I dont think it is right for these already well paid men and women to get a salary increase. In all honesty I'm stil waiting for the fire chief to call me back personally like he said he would (like almost 3 years ago I think when someone burned my car) to see why an investigator from the fire deaprtment never showed up to my house. My incident happend the same time the copper incident happend. I guess they were too busy spliting the copper amoungst themselves huh?

Don't know how the Fire departments union had leverage on the City? Since when Drug testing and Alcohol testing a factor in negotiations! There are minimun wage businesses that require drug testing!!!!!
