Congressman Cuellar Discusses Eagle Ford Shale Job Opportunities

By KGNS News

Well it's something that's been seen around the area for a while now, the Eagle Ford Shale drilling areas.
Tonight there was a meeting with vendors and other city officials to discuss the opportunities of tomorrow's job fair.
"San Antonio, an area I represent has done extremely well so I just wanted to make sure our area was not left out."
When deciding to organize an eagle ford shale job fair, Congressman Henry Cuellar says he had two main goals. One to get people jobs and also for small businesses to get connected. He says he recently read a report that projects Laredo to be at the top of the list when it comes to employment.
"I saw a report that came out that says Laredo in the next 10 years will be the number one producer of jobs in the state of Texas."
A representative of the Texas Workforce Commission says he is hopeful this will supply jobs to those who need them now and in the future.
"It represents jobs for every drill..Every rig that goes up, there are jobs tied to that, tied to completion, tied to production."
Alcantar says the eagle ford shale covers a large area, which is why companies expect to be around for a while.
"What we hear from companies is a long term play. They anticipate drilling to go on at a high peak for a number of years."
In fact, Congressman Cuellar says there will be jobs for decades.
"This is something that will producing jobs for many years in the future, some estimates are 40-50 years which is an incredible boom for our area."

At least all those toxic chemicals pumped into the rigs will go DOWNSTREAM and not affect us. Brownsville, however, is a different story. :P
