Cuellar Questions Border Report at Congressional Hearing

Congressman Henry Cuellar comes to the defense of our US side of the border.
This after a controversial report claims the area we live in is a war zone.
But, now he's being criticized for asking the authors of the report to back up their facts.
It all played out on tape with clips of a congressional hearing aired by Fox News.
Cuellar says he’s aware of what’s going on in Mexico, and believes we need more funding to prevent violence from spilling over. But, he says misrepresenting our side of the border affects business and everyday life.
He adds that he did not disrespect those behind the report and asks the public to view the entire 10 minutes of the hearing.
We’ll be posting it on our pro 8 news website and hope to hear what you think.

i do agree with that, i bet they wont want to b there again but i just feel it is wrong... but oh well i now see that theres nothing we can do. i just feel bad for the ones that have been there for non violent crimes and have had this done to them as for the rapist, murders and others oh well they get what they deserve.. Enough said.

I agree with u to some point do the crime be prepared to do the time, but I'm talking about the young inmates who are first time offenders don't they deserve a second chance. They don’t deserve to be treated this way. Also talking about the ones who go in for non violent crimes like maybe drunk driving, or for warrants.Who cares what the case maybe I still don't think is right for them to rape these inmates yes Im aware that u go in there with an attitude ntrying to be a smart a** u will get your a** beat but the ones who are just keeping to themselves and these guys are just doing this for their entertainment. I know that many of u will not agree with me but I don't care what u say these acts of violence cannot continue to happen. U need to have sum heart the inmates who r being beat and raped are not all murders or inmates that hav committed violent crimes n u don’t hav to agree with me and NO ITS NOT MY FAMILY MEMBER WHO THIS HAPPENED TO before u start judging.

,,,or are a part of the “federal offenders baby-sitting program”. Either way you are correct. They have a prior conviction or there was enough evidence to warrant the arrest and incarceration.

I do have to agree with one thing the general did say, know while I'm paraphrasing here, what is happpening is they (city leaders congressman, etc. etc.)are down playing what is happening here on the Texas border and until and when the sh** hits the fan is when they are going to say I told you so and its gonna be too late. Now I think using the term "War Zone" was a bit much but the violence is like a slow water leak that if left that way is going to turn into a major problem. I have heard that the cartel gang members are probing Laredo to later on have an all out attack and take over of our city.

That happened in Mexico not in san Ygnacio. If you go to the mexican side, you will also hear gunshots from the American side, specially during hunting season. (everyday and nights)

**PLEASE READ AND REPORT**I was not sure where to post this but need to shed some light on the situation that is happening in Webb County Jail.The older inmates are raping and beating the new and younger inmates n is not just one they take turns this has been happening for some time and the SHERIFFS UNDER MARTIN CUELLAR R ALLOWING THIS TO HAPPEN as they are involved in these rapes in beatings by opening the cells to the other inmates so that they can commit these cruel acts of violence other inmates get really aggravated and try to do something but are not allowed as they are locked in their cells. These inmates feel hopeless as they cannot do something to help the inmates that are being raped and beat they can't report to the sheriffs because they are the ones allowing the older inmates to do this. We need to get Martin Cuellar out he is aware of this and instead of putting a stop to it he looks the other way... PLEASE REPORT AND SPREAD THE WORD. PRO8 NWS PLEASE INVESTIGATE!

Anglos are a minority in Laredo (and most of South Texas), but you don't hear them complaining. Dallas is a war zone, Houston is a war zone.. well, the only thing I see is the perpetual racism against the Mexican American people by the gabachos. Is good for cuellar to experiment the racism from the "American elite", It does not matter how assimiliated you wanna be, you still be a "greaser" to the Anglos. We need the U. S. Army to jail all the corrupt judges and cops in Laredo that is the only "spill over" from mexico that we have.

Here we have two sides of a coin. We have a report stating what we all know to be true in some form or fashion and a State Rep. who is interested in the condition of the constituent. The problem lies in the fact that a “person” is smart but you add the “people” factor to this equation and you get mayhem. I do believe that our local and state leaders representing this area down-play the reality of the situation. “What you don’t know or fully understand won’t hurt you”. The fact remains that “people” are wising up which reflects poorly on those who represent the masses. Let us get our heads out of the sand and recognize it for what it is; a MESS and danger is still and will continue to be lurking!!!!

Iam sure Mr. Cuellar has the best interest in mind for Laredo and our community. He is correct that it is not a war zone at the moment but needs to pay attention to the direction our security on the border has changed. We are seeing more violence and the incident in San Ygnacion is a prime example of violence escalating to the US side. Laredo is not a war zone like IRAQ and the generals may have embellized the violence to make a point. All I know is that we need more security on the US side to ensure our safety.

It is commendable that Mr. Cuellar would want to defend Laredo; however, he needs to be realistic. A river (and in some areas, not even that)separates us from what is essentially a war zone. To think that the Texas side is untouched is naive and unrealistic. I imagine the children from San Ygnacio who were hiding under their desks to avoid getting caught in the crossfire would agree. Mr. Cuellar is questioning months of investigation and research that is based on data as well as personal interviews. Perhaps he should watch the new show about Laredo. I am sure there must be some embellishment, but sadly, I am sure the majority of it is true. Mr. Cuellar cannot ignore the truth any longer. Just because he doesn't acknowledge the problem doesn't mean it's not there.

Good for Cuellar to stand up to those war mongers.But sadly the Generals are right. We need an Army Brigade,special forces etc.etc. to be stationed in and around Laredo.It will help our economy.
