Drug King Pin Killed

News Across the Border

By KGNS News

A Mexican drug lord wanted by U.S. officials on a $5,000,000 bounty on his head is killed in a shootout lasting hours long. The Associated Press is reporting that Tony "Tormenta" Cardenas was killed in Matamoros, Mexico on Friday.

Hundreds of marines and soldiers reportedly flooded that city and engaged in an "hours" long shootout with hit men from the gulf cartel. Cardenas was among Mexico's most wanted drug kingpins. U.S. officials indicted him on smuggling tons of narcotics over the past decade.

Two marines and three suspected cartel gunmen died in that same operation, as well as Mexican crime reporter caught in the crossfire.
