Employee Brings Allegations Against Academy

We'll get to the vote on a new contract for Laredo firefighters in a moment, but first, an employee of Kristi Lins Academy is speaking out tonight, claiming they are cutting corners in numerous areas to keep their license. She also says employees are being treated poorly and has had enough, forcing her to call pro 8 news problem solvers. Our Ryan Bailey has more in our top story tonight. Claims of kids not being given the proper amount of food and employees not being paid for hours they have worked are just a couple of issues Delia Ponce has with her current employer.
Ponce's says her situation came to a head this past Friday, when police were called to the Academy, after heated discussions and management demanding she leave the building. She says it began as an argument over taking an hour break, one she never has been forced to take in the past.
"I was in care of 16 kids and like I said, if they're not going to pay me the hour, then the kids were by themselves."
After this she claims the owners wanted her to quit, going so far as to draw up resignation papers for her.
"She threw it on my face and told me to sign it. I told her I’m not going to sign it. I am not quitting."
Later that evening she got a text saying she was not on the schedule for Monday. They said she was not fired but that they did have many complaints against her. When she requested to see her file, they refused saying she needed legal assistance for that.
"An attorney had to get it for me and she told me "Get out. You're not scheduled so you're not allowed to be in this building at all."
Ponce thinks this stems back to things she would bring to the owner's attention dealing with how things were being run.
"I started telling them a lot of things that I would see in school and they were always telling me that they were scared of me."
She claims they tell teachers to act differently and do things by the book when licensing agencies are around.
"They tell them, "Remember you need to do this" and "Remember to do that" and they try and cover up things."
She says despite the difficulties the Academy remains a quality place for one reason.
"Kristi Lins is Kristi Lins because of the teachers inside, not because of the owner or who runs the school. It's because of us, the teachers inside."
Kristi Lins Academy refused to go air but did say this is a case of a disgruntled employee that was failing to adhere to the schedule. They also claim that she has made threats to the Academy in the past, but at this point is still employed at Kristi Lins. Reporting from the studio, Ryan Bailey, pro 8 news.

Kristi-lins was my first job right out of high school. I had a wonderful experience working under Kristy and the Gonzalez Fam. During my employment I was attending child development classes at LCC, in which Kristi-Lin's paid for my classes through a grant they received from CCMS. I learned so much skills and techniques through the professional training that Kristi-lins provided me that I implemented in my classroom and in my personal life. The Gonzalez Fam. encouraged me to further my education in Early childhood, and allowed me to continue my employment with my yo-yo college schedule at TAMIU and while I was doing my blocks. I have been employed with UISD for 2 years now and have to say I am here because of Kristi-Lins. I will always be grateful. So many of my UISD co-workers were also my co-workers at Kristi-Lins and we all feel the same way. We have been given the tools to continue to be the greatest Teachers in Laredo. I'm glad an employee finally spoke out!! I wonder if parents have ever noticed why alot of teachers are not there anymore!?? Why there's always different teachers being hired?? Duh because we couldnt stand the rudeness of our boss!! Teachers always did their job the best! But to a point it's not worth getting mistreated and working so hard for minimum wage after years of working there. I'm behind you Delia!

all i have to say is mothers out there rading this if your children come home telling you they dont like the place there at look into it! and ask to stay there just pop up in there class and ask to stay there you could do that? and if you cant or they tell you otherwise take the law with you meaning a cop i know if my child came home telling me theres something wrong i would be all over that like a hawk protecting her nest and i think this teacher is just doing what she thinks is right in her eyes.

I dont understand... Why does it take one person to speak up so others can too.If plenty of people noticed the lack of food,why didnt anyone report it to the TX DEPT of AGRICULTURE??? The state provides funds to the daycare to purchase food for their student based on the total of the parents income. Because I have seen it myself, the 800 number is given to you in theirschool policies. They should also have the number posted in their front office for everyone to see.

My children attend Kristi-Lin's and they have learned a lot. My children adore the teachers and the Gonzalez's including Kristie. I have nothing bad to say about Kristi-Lin's but good things.

I am a fomer employee and although I have only good things to say about Mr. and Mrs. Gonzalez I cannot say the same about Kristy. Spell check or not I witnessed several incidents like the ones mentioned in several posts. Bottom line I KNOW what some of these people are talking about, I am just surprised that took this long for somebody to speak up and for some of you to pretend that everything is just a bed of roses it is wrong. She may like you today and praise you today but with her you never know.

mmmmmm...former or present employees don not pretend things do not happen at Kristi-lin's. We all know that if Kristy likes you, your job is seccured, heck she may even pay for your trainnings and trips. Now, if you are not on her good side or she simply doesn't like you you all know what's going to happen...hell! Yup, for everything you do or you don't. also, don not blame the cooks thy just follow directions from the boss. Although, Mr. and Mrs. Gonzalez are amazing people Kristy must have been adopted because she is just way to bitter and to materialistic.We all have been witness of one or more or her temperamental explosions towards an employee...and yes, it didn't matter that the employee was good or not most of the times she just crossed hKristy's patha at the wrong time. So sad, because that places has been a great place for teachers and children alike for a very loong time, just a shame that she needs to mess things up!

I just say let the woman and her employer handle this on their own. What does this woman think will happen because she went to pro 8 news with her story. Was she looking for a raise, was she expecting a schedule change that will be more convienient to her? And Pr 8 news should have gotten both sides of the story before putting the story on air. So now every time someone does not like the rules and policies set forth by their bosses are going to go to pro8 news. I dont get it.

Ummm...yeah if i'm a former employee than i'm not another "disgruntled employee." I'm just telling the truth, letting everyone know the facts. I saw them first-hand making the "juice," and if you consider 1 slice of toast w/butter and a small cup of milk breakfast, then I feel sorry for your kids. And the daycare owners HAVE to pay for their employee's training by law, look it up. It's not because they want to. And please let me know what "scholl" you work at, so I can make sure not to send my child there...even my child knows how to spell better than that. Oh yeah, and I happen to know plenty of teachers that work in both districts, and most of their GT students didn't go to Kristi-Lin's, some of them didn't even go to daycare, and some of them went to headstart.

hey former employee, while you maybe correct that credit is due to the teachers, lets not forget all the money spent by the Gonzalez family in training the teachers.yes Kristi lins has a hight turn over rate in employees, reason being that school districts and other childcare centers know that you have recieved some of the best training around.Also i have seen first hand that they provide nutrious meals to the children as well as snacks.Oh and they to get checcked quite frequently by licensing and representatives for the food program to ensure that they are following the guidelines oulined. you sound to me like your another disgruntled employee. oh andand fyi, iam know a teacher at the scholl district and believe me . see the huge diffrence betweenthe children that attended kristi lins and those who did not . guess which were more advanced.any other reson for the hight turn around rate is that kristi lins only wants the best for its students and clients

umm Mr. or Ms. "anon" Kristi-Lin's is Texas Rising Star because of the work the TEACHERS do, not the price (there are plenty of other daycares that are TRS and Tx School Ready too, my child attends one). Kristi-Lin's does NOT follow the nutritional standards set by the state of Tx (their menu does, though). If u could only see what they Actually serve the kids, not what the menu says. Sometimes their "orange juice" is Sunny D and their idea of juice is ~half a gal. water and ~1 tblsp. CountryTime Pink Lemonade drink mix. They rarely get served anything other than cookies and/or crackers for a 2:30 and 5:30 snack. The daycare my child attends (which is much cheaper) serves them sandwiches or fruit for 2:30 snack and chicken nuggets or fideo w/ground beef for 5:30 "snack" (I've seen it for myself). My child does NOT come home hungry/starving. And she brings home plenty of work EVERYDAY, not just on Friday!!

No matter what you do or how much maoney you make, very few people love their jobs and who the work for. Employees will always have issues with management and managment will always be percieved as the bad guy for taking corrective action against an employee. you may love your job but hate your boss but we do what we have to to get by. this all started with allrgations of poor care and nutrition being made by an employee.It is my understanding that the employee was upset because she was reprimanded for not adhering to her assigned work schedule and company policy. seems to my like a case of a disgruntled employee trying to get back at her employer. more specifically tryung to bully her employer. Also we should all just concentrate on the facts and not get into the personal lives and feeling tward those involved. I also most admonish KGNS and pro-8 ews for irresponsible reporting. as a news entity you would think that they would no beeter than to air something whith outhaving all facts.

opinions may vary, but if you eliminate all the dram and look at only the facts, you will find that Kristi-lins is the best child care center in the city of laredo. the have numerous credentials including Texas rising star, are acredited, and adhere to the nutritional standard and guidlines set by the state of TEXAS. they offer unsurpassed services and put education first above all else. If yoyr just looking for a baby sitter, than their are a lot cheaper and sub standard day care centers you can choose from, But if you are like me and put the care well being of your child above all else than you want the best and that is undisputably Kristilins which anyone can conclude by doing a little research. I for one can't put a price on the care and education of my child, So yes kristi-lins maybe a little more expensive. in the end you get what you pay for.

Those of you who do not know Ms. Ponce or Kristi really should not judge them. Those of you who have been treated "kindly" by Kristi were probably paying her the ridiculous amounts of money she charges "because she can charge whatever she wants" (Actual quote from Kristi) Example, $250 summer supply fee. Other daycare my child attended instead, $25 summer supply fee. And she brought home an activity she had done EVERY day, way more than she did for three summers at Kristi lins. My point is she's GREEDY! Where does all that money go? It sure doesn't go to the employees. Especially when she them write their time sheets in PENCIL!

I work at the School and Here's what everyone doesn't know. 1. Ms. Ponce didn't want to follow the schedule that was given to her cause she wanted to leave early and go out of town. I've always been under the impression that when you work for someone you follow the schedule you are given. Ask any public school teacher if they can do what they want at their school. 2. She did not want to take her own sick child home so that she can start a fight with management. 3. Management called the police because Ms. Ponce was very unstable. I am friends at the school with her and am very disappointed with her actions. Yes we don't get along with Kristy, but who here loves working 9-5 jobs and loves taking orders from their boss. Don't like your boss, well take some initiative and start your own business. My son can't stand his baseball coach but still plays hard every game.

I am an employee here at Kristi-Lin's and PROUD of it. You all are making comments left and right about this situation but you all don't know the real story. I for one have been treated with kindness and respect by all the Gonzalez family and I know of many others too. I have worked with Ms. Ponce and she is a wonderful teacher but does tend to exaggerate the smallest of things. She does not like to hear the word "NO" and does get upset when she does not get it her way. All of her comments are false. Yes, problems do arise at the center BUT it is always discussed among the employee and the director. Ms. Ponce knows that because she has told me many of times that they (Kristy and The Gonzalez) have helped her out in many things. I plead with you all to leave her personal life out of this blog. She does have two children and is a wonderful mother to them. PLEASE STOP ALL THESE NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT HER PERSONAL LIFE!

I dont quite understand what she is saying about that hour break. Was it that she took an hour break when she was not supposed too and they told her they would take it off her check or did they ask her to take an hour break but still work taking care of the kids and they were not going to pay her. She should clarify that. Im not judging her or the day care but a little more info is needed to determine who is wrong. But in any case the employer should have let her see her file so she could see the so called "complaints" they have against her. I dont care what she does in her personal life.

Why are people pointing fingers at the teacher? The teacher only enforces the rules that management puts out. The teacher tries to make the best of what they are given. My child is starving every day after I pick em up because the child was only feed a small piece of toast with jelly and water at times. Parents ask your kid how they feel. did they eat? what did they drink? I understand Mrs Ponce because I have seen it with my eyes. But because she stood up for her students now she is being treated like the black sheep. And everyone is scared to talk because of the repercussions from Christy and the scare tactics. To me Christy was nice but that was always because I was paying tuitions but after I left that was a differ story. Last time I stop by to get some things of my child I noticed she had a lot of new hire teachers. Why so many new teachers. Maybe someone should be looking into what happens after you drop off your most valued possession.

I’m no lawyer but I have never been denied my own file at my job. This is why we have unions in the U.S. to be protected from bad employers who take advantage of us. Last thing to say what is the turnover rate for Kristy’s employees. that should speak for itself on how good of a place is it to work there.

Stick to the issue. It doesn’t matter what miss ponce does in her personal life as long it’s not against the law then what does that have to do with the price of oil in china. Does it matter if Christy knows how to take care of her own kids at home, if she could easily BEAR CHILDREN OF HER OWN? No it don’t. What is the point here? Is ponce doing a good job with the kids and is she well respected by the kids and parents or is Kristy doing the good job and is she respected or just feared by everyone. What is Kristy doing now, what Kristy does best? Trying to slander an innocent person and covering stuff up. Why didn’t she let her see her own file? I grew up in that school and yes I was one of the students there, but in all honesty, I disliked attending. I thought it was disorganized and I do agree with some complaints about Kristi and Lina. They are total witches behind closed doors but I feel for Mrs.Gonzalez. She is probably the only one with a head on her shoulders. God Bless Her.

That is so true, isn't this the employee that is dating a married bp agent who is still living with his wife and children, the one who she herself is still married to a man that is in prison for drugs. If she is upset at how they "run" the school, taking it as far as licensing standards being met, why would you have your two precious children there. Isn't that a contradiction to what she is saying. I have my child at Kristi-lins and I am extremelyproud of that. My child has excelled in his writing skills and reading skills not to mention his vocabulary. If there seems to be a big problem then she should have dealt with it as a professional (and not to mention, might have wanted to look alittle professional inher interview on camera) and not stoop so low as to slander the school. She IS a special breed that stood up, it's called a problematic breed. Kristi-Lin's Academy is the best childcare center in Laredo. I wouldn't have my children in any other center. Kristi-Lin's teaching staff, office staff and yes, even the owners are very helpful and compassionate about every single child enrolled. This so called "Mistreated Employee" is just a Disgruntle employee and should not be allowed to work with any children at all. My child cried every time I would leave her under Ms. Ponce's care and say that she (Ms. Ponce) was mean to her. I am proud of Kristi-Lin's Academy and will continue to support them. Ms. Ponce, you should be ashame of yourself!

I praise people who stand up against corrupt management more people should do this but instead they let it happen it takes a special breed of people to do this with guts. I know I have stood up against poor management before and I really know how it feels having to be the only one to stand up and fight so others loose fear and follow. The teachers are great! The lady running it is not! She has a major lack of people skills, evidenced by the closing of the other site she was running. Coincidence? Nope! I have to disagree with the negative comments. Any employer will have employee issues, but my children love Kristi Lins. My son still attends and my girls look forward to attending every summer. They teach them good fundamentals that will help the children succeed where ever they go. My girls are now in elementary and they were both the top students of their class and first place in the accelerated reader program. It is sad to see that an employee issue will taint the academy's reputation.

She is not a disgruntled employee. She is a mistreated employee, to say the least. My child was there for 3 years until I decided to take her out after Kristi was horribly disrespectful towards me. I saw how her Kristi treated her employees. And it's true, the only reason that place is a success IS because of the TEACHERS! It's about time someone stood up to her. To anyone who has ever been mistreated by this awful woman, now is the time to speak out and let Ms. Ponce know she is not alone.

I find it hilarious how people, especially other daycare owners whose business has suffered from Kristi-lin's success, come on here and blog about false accusations. Anyone who has had their children there would know how the owners really are and that their children have only grown to be successful individuals because of their experience at Kristi-Lin's. Smearing the good name of this daycare does nothing but make it stronger. Afterall all any press is good press!!!

I like Naty's daycare. I love the way they take care of the children. When my son was attending that day care, everday he would cry when I dropped him off. He would just stare at the window waiting for me. The owner is such a good person she would sit with him until he calmed down.

I have to agree with this lady's allegations. The staff would scream at the children as if they were in a boot camp. The owners of this day care are a disgrace, they run business poorly, and they make themselves look good in front of parents, but behind closed doors they are witches. Kristi & Lina.... I'm surprised parents still entrust you with their children!
