"Lo que me importa es la casa..I don't care about this. This is a mess."
“Residents of a neighborhood affected by a flood just a little over a year ago are now being threatened by another natural disaster."
"That's what scares some people, the fire and water. That's a lot of problems."
The fire started around one thirty in the afternoon and continued burning for hours. Residents of the neighborhood were preparing for the worst by watering down their property and even leaving their homes, something all too familiar for some.
"I feel bad because we already went through the flood that happened here. We're afraid you that it will happen again."
Freddy Lopez, who lives in the neighborhood first saw the smoke and flames while he was near the mall. As he got closer he thought it was coming from a warehouse on Mines Road. But he was wrong.
"I got home. I told my wife it looks like there's a fire close by. I look out the window and the fire was real close."
Lopez and others looked on while firefighters worked to contain the blaze. He wondered why there is so much brush back there when it's so dry.
"They're supposed to have a certain amount of space that's cleared out. That's what they should do."
Once the flames were contained, the Laredo Fire Department said close to 50 acres were burned. No homes were damaged. Lauren Kendrick Pro 8 News.
