Former fire chief dies

By KGNS Intern

The Laredo Fire Department is mourning the loss of a former fire chief.

Tomas Ramirez passed away early this morning.

He served in the fire department for 26 years, four of those as fire chief. Flags were at half staff today at fire stations across the city in honor of a man who was one of Laredo's very first paramedics.

Ramirez was also instrumental in helping acquire land for many of Laredo's fire stations.
