Garage Sale Sign Ordinance Being Enforced

By KGNS News

It's not a new ordinance, but now it's being strictly enforced. All of those garage sale signs posted on street poles are not only an eyesore, but also not supposed to be posted. Our Lauren Kendrick has that story.
"The ordinance has already been in place for some time. The only thing now is the enforcement."
As part of the enforcement, the city will begin fining people for leaving their garage sale signs posted. The fines could be as much as $200. Liendo says the city is just trying to keep the city looking good.
"If they leave them up too long they get wet, they peel off and we see a lot of litter. So it's just a lot of things we're trying to prevent."
As for how they're planning to fine the people who leave their signs up..."We'll use all the info that is on the sign to find the person whether it's phone number, address, whatever information will be used."
Liendo says instead of putting those signs up, people can advertise their garage sales without littering.
"There's other ways to promote the garage sales through social media site, the newspaper, community bulletin boards. So by doing this we're making it a cleaner safer environment for the community."
Again, this ordinance is already in place and the city of Laredo will begin fining people immediately.

God forbid that nobody polutes our light posts...How dare you people!!! Forget about poluting our atmosphere with thousands of semi trailers going through Laredo and also causing accidents on our streets. Let's keep our Light posts nice and clean Laredoans... Come on!!! You should know better than go and polute light posts.. Good Job Commissioner, keep up the good work!!!

laughable, how are they going to enforce it? Anyone with half a brain can say they did take it down. As for the bb court ... um, mine is on the street, i have no sidewalk .. and all the kids on the block use it without asking.. and that's perfectly fine with me since they won't be in the middle of the intersection where the idiot drivers can run over them.

While we are added....how about ticketing the people that have basketball goals and vehicles blocking the sidewalks. That is a safety hazard for people walking on the sidewalks. I personally walk on the people yard, when they tell me something, I just respond that I do not walk on the street.

Most of those signs are in north laredo together with all that stupid people jaywalking in San isidro, Thanks to the housing "boom" now we have people from the barrios living like if they are still living in la ladrillera or el cuatro or gabachos thinking that they are still living in the trailer park.

so if i wants to get someone in trouble or fines i can go put a garage sale sign on one of these poles with thier address and they will get the fine lol, its a weak ordinance, littering is already against the law.
