"This is one of the few parks where you don't see any kind of graffiti on the play ground area, the shades are still intact. It shows that the community here is taking care of the park."
A crew of workers in making some changes to the the Century Park in the Century City subdivision.
The changes are said to not only beautify the park but also make it a safer place.
Eddie Millan from the City of Laredo said, "We've trimmed the oleander bushes and as you can see we have trimmed them now below eye sight so there's really no possible way of anybody hiding behind them."
But the bushes growing too thick was not the only concern of some neighbors.
some complained the lighting in the park was not enough.
"We've worked with AEP if you notice the lights at night time they're white now before they used to be like yellowish type", Millan stated.
The white new lights are said to be brighter and along the more lights the city is also adding, all parts of the park will be visible at night.
The next big change coming to the park is covering this large gap found in the back fence of the facility, making the park a much safer place.
"We're gonna add an additional hopefully some fencing in the back there's an open area there so just for precaution just so no one can run through or run through the back."
With those issues being solved, there's one concern left, and that is the issue with the parking. Currently those who go to the Century Park have trouble finding parking but Eddie Millan explains why this pocket park is not like Independence Hills or North Central Park in North Laredo.
"A pocket are within the neighborhood and they are designed for the neighborhood. I mean anybody could come and visit obviously but it's designed for the neighborhood for the people who live around the park can easily walk from their home and to the park."
There is currently no plans to add more parking, but for now those who use the facility can already feel safer with the improvements done to the park.

The gap in the back is used by the kids from Independence hills to get TO the park, but thats okay -- we can have them walk further and on the boulevard.
