By KGNS News

After spending hours closed this afternoon and traffic rerouted due to a massive accident involving a tractor trailer.
Now officials are warning motorists to take extreme care when driving on slick roads to avoid tragedy.
Our Carolina Garcia has more in our top story tonight at six.
These rainy conditions may cause a vehicle to hydroplane even if the driver is not going over the speed limit.
Right before noon a tractor trailer transporting about 11 thousand pounds hydroplanes on I-35.
Preliminary reports say due to rainy conditions may have been a factor in the accident. The driver was headed North close to mile marker 28 on I-35 when he lost control of the vehicle going over the median and invading the South bound lane the Driver was able to get back into the northbound lane avoiding what could have been a fatal accident.
Luckily the driver suffered no injuries.
The fire department wants to remind the community of the dangers of driving in rainy conditions.
Fire captain Eloy Vega said, "One those things is to drive defensively. We can drive defensively by slowing down, maintaining a proper level of distance between cars and also making sure that we have those head lights on. That's gonna increase our visibility profile, and other motorists are going to see what we are driving."
Captain Vega recommends slowing down ten miles under the speed limit, but how how much distance is far enough from the vehicle ahead to maintain safety. He said, "so make sure you're driving at least one car length or at least 1 and a half away from the vehicle. That's gonna allow you enough time to break in case you have to break suddenly."
Keeping your eyes on the road and only the road, is crucial. He suggested to make sure that you are focused on driving specially during rainy weather . distractions such as phones, texting, or anything else that would take your eyes off the road should be avoided.
DPS is reporting Interstate-35 lanes are open already.
They were closed for over 5 hours due to the accident involving the tractor trailer causing traffic to back up for over 10 miles.
Once again Interstate 35 open for traffic already.
