It's a day feared by many across the globe, the day many believe the world will end.
Tuesday night, Laredo Community College held a presentation discussing what people are calling Doomsday 2012.
Many people are preparing for what some are saying will be the end of the world.
But others say it's another false prediction, just like Y2K.
This was a big topic as people packed the theater to hear what Dr. Barnhart had to say about the topic.
Dr. Edwin Barnhart agrees there will be no Doomsday in 2012 and said it’s just a misunderstanding of the Mayan calendar.
"I'm going to dispel that rumor.. There is a lot of things that our society says about the Maya calendar and the Mayans didn't actually say anything about that, anything like that in their calendar."
Dr. Barnhart has studied the Mayan calendar and Mayan mathematics for several years and said people believe Doomsday will happen because that's when the Mayan calendar is suppose to start over.
"We have this assumption that their calendar is going to reset like the clock on our wall or the odometer in our car and that's simply not the way the Maya view time and the calendar system they made."
Some students said they do not know what to believe about doomsday.
Geraldine Arellano, Student: "I don't know what to think. That’s why I'm here. I mean a lot are saying it is going to happen and 'oh, I don't believe in it.' But that’s why I'm here, to see what he's going to talk about."
But most people we talked to say they agree with Dr. Barnhart and don't believe the world will end anytime soon.
Richard Resendez, Student: "I don't believe it. I love it; it's a great topic, a lot of people will over think it, but no, I don't by it.”
Gabriela Garza, Student: "I don't really believe in Doomsday, but I do think something will happen, big changes."
So for now Doomsday is set for December 21st, 2012.

"There have been 514 Leap Years since Caesar created it in 45BC. Without the extra day every 4 years, today would be July 28, 2013. Also, the Mayan calendar did not account for leap year.. so technically the world should have ended 7 months ago" -- taken from a facebook post

Everyone make sure all your bills are paid, wouldn't want a disaster to strike and you owe money.

If it happens will we know about it? Will prono report it correctly? Will Mindy thank a person on a two day old video tape? Oh I have a headache just trying to figure it out!
