"Through some serious strategic budget planning, we're really excited to approve salary increase for all of our employees."
The L.I.S.D. School district has had to make many budget cuts in the past year, but nelson says that in the midst of difficult financial times, he wanted to offer his employees a little extra in their take home pay. "I think it's been impressive to the teachers and employees in our district."
A press release from the school district shows the break down of the pay increase. L.I.S.D. teachers received a 300 dollar raise, while administrators were given a .5 percent increase. L.I.S.D. paraprofessionals received a 1.5 percent raise in their salary. With this increase the superintendent is expecting a lot from the teachers.
"We want to make sure that each classroom has a teacher that is passionate and competent and ready to bring kids a world class education."
Nelson adds that he feels his staff works as a team. His goal this school year is to provide an individualized education for every child.
"We've got big plans for an exciting school year. we know that our 24,300 kids are coming with big dreams."
