LISD Receives Another Pay Raise

By KGNS News

We told you about a pay raise that the Laredo Independent School District approved a few weeks ago. Now they have proposed yet another raise. It was brought up at tonight's school board meeting.
"Really the amounts being provided are very insignificant."
School board trustee Jose Valdez is proposing to raise salaries for administrators from .5% to 1% and all clerical and manual trades personnel from 1.5% to 2%.
However not all board members agree.
"Well I prefer to be a little bit more conservative to air on the side of caution."
Laredo Independent School District approved a raise just weeks ago, so some wonder why they are already proposing another one?
"Some of the trustees after reflecting on the fund balance thought that we probably could have done a little bit more."
School board trustee Valdez gives his opinion on how they could have avoided having to vote on another raise.
"We gave raises and then amended the raises to our teachers. Next time, we should take care of all of them at the same time."
Not everyone agrees on this motion to approve another raise though.
"It's not necessarily the best thing to do."
School board President Beckelhymer thinks it would be a better idea to give the employees a bonus so it's only a one time payment, but the school board is willing to work together to help reward their employees.
"Even though there's a bit of disagreement, ultimately we're going to come together and approve it. I'm certain of that."
The raise was approved at tonight's meeting. Beckelhymer says the total impact of this new pay increase is about one point two million dollars.

Yay!!! More money for useless teachers or nannies like the kids progress says they deserve one and by the way they're cutting funds for kids education and the little of it left the teachers get it in raises and that's laredo's way of funding education.

And BOBBY got a $25000.00 raise?? my total income is half of that! but maybe when all the taxpayers default on their property taxes and loose their homes then they will wake up and realize there is no more money to spend. This is just plain gross.

Bobby got the pay raise because he's been with the district for more than 20 years and "cares for the children." He now has the motivation to push his staff forward, who will then push the Teachers, who will then push the students??? Financially speaking...

@ be ready, The district doesn't have enough money to give their teachers their yearly raise because they gave their administrators a handsome raise as well, oh you all didn't know? Of course not. Nobody was let in to the "meeting"...Do you actually think they can afford drug testing for everyone???
