The Cardenas family is not only hurting emotionally, but also financially due to themedical and funeral expenses for Omar, but a group of volunteer veterans decided to help them during these very tough times. "He’s an angel in heaven right now and unfortunately we loss a very young life," said combat veteran, Valentin Cuellar. Leave it to the City of Laredo to help community members in need. A group of volunteer veterans organized a bucket brigade to help the Cardenas family after losing 9 year old Omar Cardenas. For the first time since the tragic incident Laura Cardenas, Omar’s mom speaks to our cameras and says she is honored to see the Laredos support. Laura, was at the event and said, "I’m honored, and my son was very special. He was extraordinary and I’m glad that everybody sees it, and not just me as his mom." The volunteer veterans say they were just looking to help the family, but can’t believe the amount Laredo donated to the cause. "Oh I’m elated we've had several other bucket brigades and never ever have we hit the 3 thousand dollar mark so I’m elated that we can reach that goal,” says Cuellar. And although money can't take the pain away, little Omar’s mother says it good to at least have some relief from the economic hardship. "I would like to invite the community to continue and show their support. I appreciate the community's support within the last couple of weeks, with all of their contributions and donations. Our family appreciates it." Carolina Garcia, Pro8News.
