"It generates pride in the place they live in which is nice and always exciting." The president of the world city publication was on hand at the logistics and manufacturing symposium speaking about what a vital part Laredo plays in world trade. Of the top 20 customs districts Laredo is near Los Angeles, New York, Houston and Detroit. "Laredo is the sixth largest customs district so it's disproportionately powerful relative to the size of the city." "Laredo's trade with the world reached 185-billion dollars in 2010. and this year the gateway city is projected to top that with a record breaking 200-billion dollars." "95% of Laredo's trade is with Mexico. it will reach 200-billion dollars. it's the first time custom district has ever done that." The president of the manufacturing and logistics association Ivan Rodriguez is hopeful that even with violence happening on our border that business will not be affected. "i think the whole issue right now that we're faced with is getting better. i have hope and aspirations the Mexican government will work everything out and things are going to boom." Laredo is the number one port for imports which Rodriguez knows brings businesses but he also reminds people just how safe it is. "Laredo is the number one safest community in the entire country and it's proven statistically. so people can feel very comfortable doing their business through Laredo."
