Laredo's Third Homicide of 2012

By KGNS News

Laredo crime scene investigators combed the area of a North side apartment building after a homicide early this morning.
Police have not released the identity of the victim found shot several times inside his apartment.
"Around three o'clock this morning fire crews responded to a reported shooting on hillside."
Vega says it was one male victim reportedly in his late 40's.
"When crews arrived, they found a male patient who had been apparently shot."
It's still unclear as to how many shots the man sustained. But he was still alive when first responders got to the scene of the apartments.
"The crews worked very hard to render first aid there at the scene and in route to the hospital. They're reporting that he was alert during the trip to the hospital but obviously in a lot of pain"
The 49 year old victim was transported to Laredo medical center where he later died around four this morning.
"The third homicide of 2012 happened right here at these apartments behind me."
We spoke to neighbors who did not want to be on camera. They recall seeing crime scene units as well as many police cars surrounding the apartment complex. One witness even saw detectives carrying multiple evidence bags out of the apartment.
Many Laredoans are shocked to hear this is the third homicide since it's only January. Compared to past years 2010 had nine murders, 2011 had eleven murders and 2012 is up to three already. Although the homicide is still being investigated, police believe this is related to drug trafficking.
