Local girl recognized for excellent artwork

Children were honored tonight at the Laredo Center for the Arts.

It was all part of the annual student art exhibit.

The theme of the exhibit is 'Este es Mi Mexico'.

We spoke to the girl who took top honors, Elena Garza, and her mother.

In addition to winning a computer, Elena’s artwork along with eleven others will be featured in a calendar that will be distributed to all the consulate offices throughout the world.

But we need more mexican american scientists, mechanical engineers and doctors not singers, dancers or painters.
