Going to the gym to workout doesn't usually pose a threat to residents until this morning when a woman was alarmed by a man performing a lewd act. We tried to get a response from a manager at the Rock Fitness Gym about the incident, but the receptionist said they were not in at the time and if we wanted to talk to them we would have to make an appointment. Allegedly a woman who was working out was alarmed when she saw a man who she says frequently records and takes pictures of women at the gym, performed a lewd act while illuminating his genitals with a flashlight. Police canvased the area but did not find the suspect because of the lack of information. "In terms of a description of a vehicle or license plate, they didn't have anything to go on." He says most likely the suspect took advantage of the time of day since it was so early. "These types of crimes have become crimes of opportunity. They catch people with their guard down." Baeza says for the size of our city, it is still safe. He gives helpful hints for preventing future incidents. "We need to make aware to the community that they have to be a little more aware, alert and take stock of the environment that they're in." And for those who don't think they'll be victim to such acts, "It can happen at any time and any place. Be more alert and aware and have your guard up."
