"The minute we found out about this incident, we put our teacher on administrative leave with pay."
That's the disciplinary action being taken after Martin High School theater teacher Karol Batey allegedly slaps a student on the cheek wednesday. You might remember, in December of 2011 Batey was also put on administrative leave after this video surfaced on YouTube...
In it Batey cusses out a student.
"At Laredo ISD we expect all of our teachers and all of our staff to treat each other with dignity and respect."
Since this is the second incident where Batey has used inappropriate behavior with students, L.I.S.D decided to keep her away from them.
"She has been temporarily reassigned away from the students."
While the school police conduct an investigation, Batey is now working at LISD central office in an administration position. When asked how many chances Batey will get, Castillon was not able to give an answer but did say LISD teachers are taught how to react in these situations.
"We provide all of our teachers with efficient and appropriate ways to manage their discipline."
Castillon says she understands that everyone has good and bad days, but all teachers are expected to follow proper protocol.

How do we know it isn't the same group of students who want to get her in trouble? What if they're making false allegations? They cannot just take it as is just through word of mouth.

Way to go Mrs. “B”!!! The LISD administration should get rid of the student (who should probably be in prison and not in a public school) and keep a proven educator who has the intestinal fortitude to stand up for what is right. It would appear that the “administration” would rather hide her in a broom closet and ultimately discipline her for standing by her morals than to have to deal with the “vieja chancluda” con las “unas quemadas”, who will be up in arms about how her beloved juvenile delinquent/walking STD’s “sybil rice was biolated” The powers that be need to weigh this one carefully. Are the needs of the many out weighed by the instigator of the melee???? This piece of rat excrement will more than likely be in the joint before it graduates from school. LISD, don’t mess this one up. Mrs. “B”,,, ROCK ON!!!!

Fact is, it was not a student that reported her, it was a teacher. Now your going to say teachers gang up on teachers?

The city has a NO tolerance policy for the workplace, why doesn't LISD?

Teachers are there to teach and not deal with discipline problems. That is the administrators job to do and they are not doing anything about it. Suspend the administrators without pay.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. She was given 1 chance to be justified in her cussing (mistakes happen) but to strike a student? Unacceptable, regardless if it was a "thug" or "gifted" student. No one has the right to lay a hand on you, or anyone in your family. family slapping other family, it happens.. but a stranger/person in authority at a workplace striking you or someone you love? UNJUSTIFIED

Why are you people condoning this teacher's inappropriate behavior? While I do agree that the minor is out of control because the parents have not done their job. However, a teacher above all is a role model and a professional. Additionally, she is the adult in this relationship. Clearly, she has not done a good job at earning their respect. In the state where I now live, that teacher would have been escorted out the building in hand cuffs. LISD step up to the plate, you drop the ball by not asking the right questions during your hiring process. This woman has no business in an educational environment. I would have a serious problem if my daughter was exposed to ignorant people that are unable to respond to a situation. She reacted and allowed herself to be taken down to that level. Have no respect for ignorance. And yes, I've been on that side of the fence and without confrontation the teenager was escorted out of the property by the cops. Thank you.

Student, Where did that teacher find out about the slapping? A student confided in her? Unless that teacher saw it, it's pretty much also a he said/she said.

Teachers should be role models and not react to students even if the student is a problematic student. Ms. Bailey has proven to be unprofessional, unehtical, and unable to act like an adult. If she were a state employee the corrective action the agency would take is to FIRE HER!!! LISD you are not doing your job to discipline the teachers and administrators who not NOT doing their job.
