Well, the last couple of days have been difficult for pet lovers with the twist and turns of a robbery case at a local pet store involving Max "Laredo’s dancing bird," and three puppies
But things are looking on the upside this weekend when Police located the charismatic cockatoo, and today one of the puppies is also found after being sold to a local family.
Our Carolina Garcia visits Petland and has the latest on our top story.
It has been a weekend of surprises here at Petland. Max the Laredo dancing bird is back home.
Petland owners kicked-off the weekend on Friday with great news, Police located Max in Roma, TX.
This was after he was reportedly sold to a woman in Zapata.
The owner of Petland, Joe Carvalho said, "All law enforcemement is working together in making sure that Max got back home. We traveled with Laredo Police Department to Roma, met Max, met the folks that were taking good care of him, who surredered him back to us and then we returned here to Laredo."
But after the safe return of Max, the three puppies that were also stolen were still missing.
Saturday morning, brought another ray of sunlight for the owners of Petland, as Charlie, one of the three missing puppies was found. Carvalho said, “He is a hybrid breed sweet, sweet as you can see. While in his sleep, he was awakened about 4 am and grabbed roughly out of the store."
Laredo authorities say the puppy was found in the west side of town. Investigator Joe Baeza stated, "Detectives and Joe, the owner from Petland, went over to the location. The dogs are chipped, so they look on the scanners with them and sure enough it was indeed one of the three dogs stolen from the burglary early this week."
We are told the puppy is in good health but he is just in need of something. Joe Carvalho said, "He needs a bath. We just got back a few minutes ago so he needs a bath but other than that he seems all right. He is eating, drinking, and smiling and seems very happy to be back."
Two pets found, two to go,
The Laredo Police Department has released some pictures of the vehicle in which the pets were transported when they were stolen.
It is a dark colored SUV with chromed rims. If you have any information about this you may contact Crime Stoppers at 727-TIPS.
The owner of Petland also stated, "Thanks to the community, thanks to all the media including and of course Pro8news, we've gotten Max back. we now have one of our puppies back. We will get them all back we believe"
Carolina Garcia, Pro8News.
Petland will be hosting a candle light vigil tomorrow Sunday at 7 PM.
You are invited to attend and bring your candle as together the hope is for a safe return of the two missing puppies, and all the missing pets around town.

Um, maxx? This WAS a real crime, a robbery!! Not to mention, it involved a living, breathing creature that could've been harmed.

uh?? what?? a candle light vigil for some overpriced doggies? don't get me wrong..its a serious offense when you have these criminal hoodlums committing these acts and the little animals are in themselves defenseless..but the owner (IMO) of course wants his "lost inventory" back and going overboard with the free publicity very happily being doled out from this station and for (lack of) other news stories whether good or bad. What's next...a funeral service for lost or dead hamsters? Oh well.

Yes, the pups are overpriced, but who aids in keeping Petland open? All those idiots who pay hundreds and thousands for them. A dog is a dog and will give unconditional love and loyalty no matter the breed or where you get them from! Don't get me wrong, I'm an animal lover, but I don't get all these folks who just HAVE to have designer pets, esp. when our economy is so bad. Other than that, stolen pets do merit att. and a candlelight vigil--it's my understanding that it's to bring attention to the issue of pet theft and hey, some do care. Maybe the owners do want the publicity, but it's that publicity and not keeping quiet what's gotten them results. So whatever works for them. If you were Petland, you'd want your "inventory" back too.

Owning a pet is akin to slavery.. how would you like it if I put a collar on you and chained you on the back porch? How would you like your food being the same darn food for years?! Yeah, slavery, aint it awesome?!

Owning a pet akin to slavery? Yeah and letting them out to die in the streets is better, right? Responsible pet owners know how to properly and kindly care for animals. Chaining them in the backyard for extended amounts of time is abuse; feeding them the same food for years is a good thing, as it prevents digestive problems! Get informed before posting an opinion.

I see a lot of repeat news about this stolen merchandise, but no substantial coverage. What about the police investigation. Any leads on suspects. How did the people that had the animals obtain them. And it is bad that they took the puppy away from a home and put him in a little cage for one. I know it was stolen, but overall the puppy ended with the short end of the stick.
