Super turnout for Menudo Bowl 2011!

By KGNS News

From what we hear, the Menudo Bowl was the place to be today. Our Antonia Mejia brings us more on the annual event.

Menudo is everywhere and no one is holding back. Even youngsters are seen tasting the spicy servings. That's because hundreds headed out to the famous Menudo Bowl at Life Downs. Approximately 50 teams from around the area came to participate in the famous menudo test-tasting competition. We spotted the Guerra family joining in the fun, and they tell us they couldn't ask for more. Jesse Guerra, a Menudo Bowl attendant,  "Free menudo, my kids love menudo.  What more do you want?" Despite the dozens of cooks fighting to become Menudo bowl champs, the Guerras didn't question their top choice: menudo sample from station 42. "It's wonderful. They blended everything real nice and smooth.  It's real good."

This treat was apparently so good, the cooks tells us it was gone in minutes. Miguel Villarreal, a menudo taste-testing contestant, adds, "It flew away by in 15-20 minutes. It went crazy, it was gone." Miguel says with 45 pounds of menudo his team made, he thought it would be enough. But with so many out here, he was just a little off. "We actually saw the same people get in line again so they probably like it." There's no doubt.

People made plans to stay all afternoon. "Nice, a lot of security. You don't have to worry about any problems and just bring the family, have fun." An active way to make a family day, one to enjoy. Antonia Mejia, Pro 8 news.

And from all those menudo entries, only a few took top prize. The winners were the following: Showmanship: Los Corporales; People's choice: Stewart Title Group; Open division: Laredo Job Corps; Media division: Guerra Communications.
