Public Affairs Officer for Customs and Border Protection, Mucia Dovalina, says it is normal to see an increase in tourists permits this time of the year.
But the long lines for those traveling into the U.S. this year, surpassed their expectations.
Dovalina said, "As a matter or fact we have seen an increase from last year in terms of the number of permits that are being processed by the officers."
During the first three months of this year 372, 729 permits were processed, compared to 2011's 263, 702 marking a 41 percent increase for this year.
In march alone of this year 75, thousand permits have been issued to tourists traveling into the U.S; that's a 96 % increase from last year.
But what are the reasons for the large increase?
"One most important one that we notice from people that are coming is that they feel safer on the highways in Mexico. They say that security on the high ways has beefed up."
Though most tourists could mean more revenue for the City of Laredo, many daily commuters who travel to Nuevo Laredo may be affected due to longer waiting periods at the International Bridges.
Officers at the bridges say they are offerig special help for the locals by opening four extra lanes.
"To try to make their way to the eastern most lane or the one furthest on the right hand side when they are headed towards the U.S. and there is a gate that is open there that will take them to those four open lanes. "

And where do you think the lazy lonestar dependent Laredoans come from? Have you noticed most don't know English? The people from Mexico come here, have kids here, and live off the system. Illegals that don't live off the system usually come from East Asia.

Although some come and overstay their visit and establish residence illegally, at least they try to find work unlike most lazy lonestar dependant laredoans. And mexicans spend their money in the US to keep our local economy going.
