Fire Captain Eloy Vega said, "We're happy to report that Easter weekend was a relatively calm weekend."
Fire Captain Eloy Vega says once again it's the community heeding to safety tips that leads to a very safe weekend.
He says despite an increase in traffic, the number of motor vehicle accidents taking place, was similar to what the department sees on any other regular weekend.
"There were nine reports of a motor vehicle accidents, six of them involving injuries. The injuries were stable. The patients were transported in stable conditions to local hospitals."
Though the number of accidents did not increase over the weekend, Vega says the Fire Department was ready to assist by having an extra crew out in the city.
"We have plans and procedures in place that does address that. In addition this holiday weekend we anticipated a large number of visitors to Lake Casa Blanca and emergency crews were there at the scene patrolling the area to make sure everything was in order."
The weekend went by quickly for those who were out having fun, and as for those on stand by ready to help the community in case of an emergency, the Laredo Fire Department is happy to report no fatalities this Easter weekend. They hope the next big holiday, fourth of July, can be as peaceful as this one. Carolina Garcia Pro8News."
