"These type of incidents are more serious than most people probably think. involving aircraft post 9-11 there are various federal and local agencies involved in investigation."
The marketing manager of the Laredo international airport gave us an update to the story we did last week about the incident of pilots being blinded by laser beams. He said the staff at the airport is glad to see these individuals arrested and doesn't expect any future incidents.
"There were two gentlemen arrested. The adult was arrested tuesday and processed at the webb county jail. the minor was arrested today."
Both men were charged with illumination of an aircraft by high intensity light. We spoke to a pilot out of Memphis who has a friend that was blinded by lasers.
"A helicopter friend of mine who just so happens to be a police officer with Memphis was struck by a laser three months ago."
Thomas Dorough who's been a pilot since 1977 is thankful this has never happened to him but feels he would be able to get through it. He emphasizes just how serious this crime is.
"To blind a pilot is a serious offense..it's mostly done by immature individuals that don't understand what they're doing."
For anyone who has committed a crime like this, Dorough has something to tell them...
"shame on you and i mean that sincerely."
