Concerned neighbors came to Pro8News looking for help.
For several years they have dealt with millions of ants branching out of an empty lot destroying their gardens.
Today the City of Laredo looked into it. Our Carolina Garcia brings us this Problem Solver.
It is the story of what one local environmentalist describes as one of the worst ant infestations he's ever seen and has the city officials concernced. City Council Member Cindy Liendo say: "I do hope that she will take care of the problem right away."
The problem with the ants on Convent Street started over two years ago.
That's when we are told the owner of the property was cited for the first time after neighbors filed a complaint with the City of Laredo; but the crawlers came back. Now the City of Laredo Health Department visited the area. Liendo said: "Our Health Director Dr. Gonzalez wll meet with the owner and she will be cited again because the problem has not been taken care of."
It was a very long wait since the first complaint was filed but, a neighbor said treatment for the pest started today. Neighbor Eloy Lozano said: "Hecharon veneno y el problema se ataco rapido. Que bueno! Para que no vallan a hacer daño sobre todo a las criaturas que pasan para la escuela por aqui."
Lozano says he is happy kids walking to school now won't run the risk of getting attacked by the ants.
Council member Cindy Liendo says though this leaf cutter ants are not easy to eliminate, the owner must comply and find a way to fix the problem. She said: "Dr. Gonzalez did state that if the owner does not comply with the citation and take care of the problem that the city will go in and take care of it, and that will be billed for the sevice."

If I would run things, I would borrow a couple of ant eaters from some zoo and place them on that lot. Problem Solved!!
