Remembering Niko Moreno

By KGNS News

Most people call her Izzy.. But to one person she was known simply as mom. Maria Izzy Moreno and her family gathered today to honor the memory of her son Niko Moreno. He would have been thirteen today. But his life was taken too soon by a fatal gunshot.
"It's hard for us because he's just not here. You never feel this is going to happen to you, he's in a good place and he's looking down on us."
Instead of dwelling on the past and the on-going case of Niko's death, this was a time of remembrance. Moreno spoke about how they would be celebrating his birthday if he were here.
"He would have been nagging his dad 'where's my video game? Where's my present? Where's my present?"
She even made his favorite meal that was a birthday tradition.
"Italian food which is lasagna and pasta. He just loved it which is what i made tonight just for him."
Moreno says niko's memory lives on through his friends who still visit the home regularly.
"When my husband's home from work and they see how he's doing. Then they play video games for a while."
Niko's mother says his father is lost without him and was too distraught to speak on camera. Another way they keep Niko in their hearts is by preserving his room.
"His room is still untouched. It's the same way he left it. The control's on the chair. I mean..it's just untouched."
Although Niko's only been gone for a short time, his mother wants to make sure he's never forgotten.

He was twelve at the time. The law doesn't require parents to be within constant sight of a twelve-year-old. The person owning the gun should be jailed.

The mother needs to be fined or jailed for leaving her kid alone. Nick rest in peace.
