Residents Deal with Another Water Main Break

By KGNS News

Residents of a central Laredo neighborhood say this is not the first time a water main has broken. It has become a regular occurrence that directly impacts their lives. Our Ryan Bailey has more in a Pro 8 News exclusive.

"I don't know why the main breaks so often."

"I guess they just patch it up, because it happens every year. I've been here 8 years and in the 8 years every year it happens."

"It's a headache every time it happens."

The two homes at the end of the 3000 block of north Stone see a small river run in front of their homes anytime the water main breaks on Plum.

"The drainage that was built there at the corner should have been built half a block or at the corner over there."

Instead water runs from Plum down Stone St. to the drains on Frost. The city has told them to build a hump in front of their driveway, but that won't solve the problem according to the residents.

"If it rains too much on my side, it would block the water from receding off and draining at the corner."

It isn't just the water, but what’s left when the water goes away, leaving this brown mud, which is a hazard as well.

"I’ve got kids. If they walk out here and slip on mud who's liable? Is it the city or who?

It is an issue for kids, but also Hector and his wife living next door, forcing them to make pathways just to get to their cars.

"Look at all that clay there. We have to scrape all that off. I'm 76, pushing 77 and it's hard. It's hard for me especially."

Ryan Bailey, Laredo's Pro 8 News.

The city says they are working on the water lines in that area to update them and hope to have the project completed soon. In the meantime, they say, they will be much more careful with how quickly they turn the lines on, allowing more time for them to become full.

NOT ANOTHER WATER MAIN BREAK!!!!! ALL IS LOST!!!! I personally think it might have something to do with severe drought and shifting ground; but who am I to argue with logic.

All these problems were left due to the corruption and thivery made during the Martin administrations. the new politicians do basically the same.
