"We are putting together a vegetarian and herb garden and we are cleaning up the nature trail and we're going to have a nature center here," said Keep Laredo Beautiful volunteer Victor Hugo Garcia.
It's the first of its kind here in Laredo and over 200 volunteers helped this project become a reality. Students off all ages helped plant seeds and decorate tire planters for the new garden. Pride is something they definitely can say they felt.
Volunteer Monique Ortega says, "More help would be good and I think that with my help we can do something better. I mean something faster and something more to help more people. I mean to help more of this organization."
Among other future components that will be implemented with the community garden will be a kitchen and library. Keep Laredo beautiful also plans to plant trees with a grant from green organizations they hope to get. Project Manager Ali Kay Hancir says, "Everybody is doing a wonderful job. We're making tire planters and they're painting those over there and then we've got the community garden. We've got the trail so I'm so excited. I can't wait for everything to develop further and get as much of the community involved as possible."
