Soldier-to-Soldier bracelets benefit wounded heroes

By KGNS News

Soldier to soldier is a fund raising and awareness campaign based on the sales of a designer version of the survival bracelets worn by thousands of U.S soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. They are known as survival bracelets because the paracord can be unraveled and the cord can be used for many purposes. Proceeds of the sales are being used to build homes for injured soldiers. It's a pro 8 news exclusive.
"When we first saw them, we just loved the way they looked, then we found out it was related to such a good cause."
$25 of the proceeds go towards the charity called 'Homes for our Troops'. The charity helps wounded soldiers who have returned home from serving our country with serious disabilities and injuries since September 11, 2001. Veterans can receive a grant for a home worth up to $63,000. The home is provided at no cost to the veteran. These bracelets were created after a soldier had a friend who was severely injured in war.
"He went to a neighbor who was a jewelry designer who said 'I'll help you' and they designed this paracord bracelet with a heart and another with an oval logo that says from soldier to soldier."
The buyer for Joe Brand explains why these bracelets are a fashion statement with a conscience.
"It's a great fashion statement because we all either know someone who is a soldier or know someone who has served our country."
Deutsch says she's seen parents coming in to Joe Brand to buy these bracelets and send to their children who are fighting for our country. They say it helps them feels united.
"Oh I think we'll keep these forever. I think as long as their making from soldier to soldier bracelets, we want to be a part of it."
Joe brand is the only store in Laredo that sells these soldier to soldier bracelets. Since January, the campaign has raised $400,000. Again $25 of each bracelet goes towards homes for our troops.
