Students Urge for "Safe and Sober" Spring Break

By KGNS News

For many out there spring break may be synonymous of craziness, but today students at LCC students proved they do not need alcohol to have fun.

"Oh we don't need alcohol to have fun, no."

The organization "Safe and Sober" took the opportunity to give free virgin drinks at the Kazen Center.
Students enjoyed piña coladas, margaritas, and strawberry daiquiries, all alcohol free.

"We want to be safe and sober and you know they can have fun like right now everybody is having a good time and they don't need alcohol."

"I think it's a good idea for spring break you know. Since we are out of college right now pretty good idea."

Drinking and driving is a dangerous combination, but there are other factors than can turn a good vacation time, tragic.
The Department of Transportation took the opportunity to raise awareness about those dangers.

"They are getting ready to celebrate spring break but we want to make sure they celebrate it well. also remind them about the texting and driving."

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2009 , 5474 people were killed in crashes involving driver distraction, and an estimated 448, 000 were injured.
Organizers of the event hope those facts will make students think twice.

such a nice story. Stay sober, party safely .. here's the REAL thing: Drunk drivers -- the driver usually will not get badly injured. Alcohol relaxes the body, so they will not stiffen up when they crash. Unfortunately - the ones that are normally killed or injured are innocent victims. THINK before you drive drunk. Can you live with yourself if you KILL someone? How about if you turn them into a vegetable, unable to function for the rest of their lives? Kill a baby? Is the party worth it? Lets try to get through spring break without a major accident!

Staying sober is very difficult when you live in a culture that actually looks down on you for NOT drinking. That idiot at the bottom, "What kind of fun is "safe and sober" party on dudes" is the exact same reason why so many people get hurt in accidents. NO matter what those no good alcoholics say, it is very possible to have fun without drinking and its worth it because you actually remember what you did and can really enjoy it. People that don't drink are better than those who do and they are %100 better role models for younger generations.
