Standoff Between Border Patrol Agent and Police Ends Peacefully
A standoff in north Laredo has ended peacefully with a border patrol agent surrendering himself to police.
The off-duty agent was threatening to take his own life, but thankfully police were able to get him out of the home without injuries.
After an over five-hour standoff with an off duty border patrol agent finally the word police are waiting for.
“Just a few moments ago he opened the front door and allowed officers into his house.”
The agent detained without incident.
It all began before ten this morning when police received a 9-1-1 call that a man was planning to take his own life.
“A friend of this individual had received a text message from him basically saying his good byes and that he was going to do harm to himself.”
Authorities arrived in the 1100 block of Pedrosa and found the man armed, barricaded in his north Laredo home.
The neighborhood suddenly crowded with heavily armed officers and agents.
People living in houses nearby were all evacuated.
“Being that he is law enforcement the presence of firearms was imminent”
Authorities and later the mans family members began working on getting the man out safely.
“We had negotiators from the police department who came over and established communications and patrol supervisor on the scene and established communication over the phone with him.”
Behind me you can see some border patrol agents and border patrol officials police tell me they are in constant contact inside the home.
Neighbors watching nearby say they saw the agent in his yard yesterday playing ball with his two young boys and believe marital issues may have triggered the standoff.
Authorities only say the agent is going through personal issues and luckily no one else was in the home.
Exactly what caused all of this, police say is not their concern.
Their goal was to get him out safely.
“Now he’s on his way to go get whatever emergency help he needs.”
Authorities say the man never made any threats against law enforcement.
He will not face any charges.
