Teacher resigns over pot possession arrest

By KGNS News

A local teacher arrested for possession of marijuana has now resigned.

LISD school officials confirmed that Roberto Lara, Jr. has turned in his resignation.

He was a teacher at Cigarroa Middle School and was pulled over earlier this week by police.

The traffic stop was made in the 700 block of Lafayette and authorities say Lara seemed nervous when the officer approached him.

A search of the vehicle turned up bags full of hydroponic marijuana.

The 28-year-old was arrested on a felony charge of possession of marijuana.

So much for his outlet... Now he'll have to rely on the corner... I know let's have a man with a soon to be felony conviction for narcotics possession,,, most likely "with the intent to distribute" teaching our children!!!

A-LA; LA POBRE CARA DE LARA Poor poor roberto lara He has fallen from grace; one can now see it all over his face. He went through the night with his tocques not thinking the worst, when on the way home, a cop from behind turned on his bright lights. Seeing this on the mirror his eyes did burst and practically made him go blind. Once solid thoughts turned quickly to mush and now his empty head they did crush. Reminded of the contract that he did sign, that said “no drug arrests “ will be excused because the super will not be amused he had no choice but to resign.

Who is he hurting? He was doing this during his personal time and not on school property. Stop wasting time on non-violent criminals.

He had a legal obligation to follow our laws. How can we tolerate dissent from one charged with the instillation of our mores onto our children? Teachers are key conduits for the transformation of children into adults. Who is he hurting? Our entire community, that's who.

Pot is illegal, until it becomes legal, then you may have a discussion on its "harmful" effects. The issue of pot being harmful is negligable in this case.

And I've yet to meet one that's actually decente, although they do come from all walks of life. Just a bunch of idiots killing more brain cells. Now we're supposed to entrust our children's education to them? Guess it wouldn't hurt to hire a babysitter who's a little high then.

I want to see ONE reason why marijuana should stay illegal. Don't give me that c**p that it does harm to a body, nor say that there's a war on drugs. Does anyone not know about the prohibition and the end of it. People will still do it no matter what. Also with the legalization our economy will flourish, and also when have you heard a death cause by marijuana?

why? said on Monday, Mar 5 at 2:35 PM

The only logical reason for mota to be illegal is that there are too many people whose livelihood depending on it staying that way. Everyone quickly thinks of law enforcement (cops) and that is true since they are the most visible whose jobs not only include processing individuals caught with weed but also a very wide variety of other duties such as surveillance, and interdiction. One needs to include attorneys, judges, and legal clerks as well as others associated with the prosecution of those individuals caught with grass. Then we need to think of those involved in incarceration such as guards, clerks, and other prison officials. After incarceration we need to consider parole and probation officers along with their staffs such as secretaries and still more clerks. To supply all these we have to have the uniform vendors, weapon (tactical and otherwise) sales people, vehicle sales to include automobile components such as tires, batteries, oil and fuel, caterers for inmates continues...

and all the vendors to supply the caterers, tactical equipment such as radios, binoculars etc… Oh yea I almost forgot prison and halfway houses builders and managers along with their personnel. This is only from the noncriminal point of view. From the criminal point of view, the cartels themselves would stand to lose much money if it were legalized. Therefore it is in the business interest of the cartel’s upper echelons that marihuana remain illegal. I’m very sure I didn’t cover other hidden costs but this short list gives you an idea as to why there are many making a living off its remaining illegal.

Right, because as we all know, there's not enough of other crime or drugs to keep law enforcement and cartels in business. *sarcastic*

You are absolutely right but as has been said Marihuana is the gateway drug. Once legalized it will lead to the legalization of more and harder drugs. ~sarcastically~

Pot smoking for recreational use is for kids in their early 20s, much like binge drinking and clove smoking. If I saw an older person in their 30s I would question their character. Medical Marijuana legalization is one thing, recreational is another. Also, the marijuana you smoke today is NOT the same as the marijuana the Indios smoked, much like the coca plants the Indians munched on is not the same as the cocain processing that happens today. Once you alter the natural order of plants/animals you cease to be "natural" yourself.

The theory that marijuana is a gateway drug has been torn down by psychology. What with Pro-8 everyday telling us th national news. Stick to local news. I will listen to CNN for national news!
