Well by now, we've heard about the possible danger when crossing into Mexico. Today, state and local officials issue an alert warning people not to travel into Nuevo Laredo this weekend after receiving intel of the Zetas planning attacks on U.S. citizens.
The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Webb County Sheriff's Department recommends no travel into the sister city saying both agencies received information from multiple sources of the Zetas cartel planning to target Americans traveling into Nuevo Laredo this July the 4th holiday.
DPS Director Steven McCraw released this statement: "According to the intel, the Zetas are planning a possible surge in criminal activity, robberies, extortions, car jackings and vehicle theft, specifically against U.S. citizens. We urge U.S. citizens to avoid travel to Nuevo Laredo this weekend if it can be avoided."
McCraw goes on to say that there is no indication that the criminal related activities will occur in Texas, but DPS and the Sheriff's Department cannot discount the information that supports possible crimes against Americans. They add that authorities are fully prepared to respond to any crime that occurs in our state.
