It's the federal trial that's gained news coverage throughout the state.
The case of Gerardo Castillo Chavez where testimony has revealed inner workings of the Zeta drug cartel.
The trial wrapped up today after two witnesses took the stand.
As of today, a series of events involving Castillo Chavez that had previously not been allowed to be discussed in court will now be included in the trial.
Gerardo Castillo Chavez is being accused of taking part in killings and assaults that took place in 2006 as part of a drug conspiracy. Although the trial has only been going on since Wednesday, the witnesses who have taken the stand have already given a lot of information.
One witness actually placed Castillo Chavez at the scene of one of the crimes he's accused of.
Gabriel Cardona, who's now serving 80 years in a state prison and life without parole in a federal prison for six killings in 2005 and 2006 is said to have been with Castillo Chavez and other Zetas during the killings of Jesus Maria 'Chuy' Resendez and his 15 year old nephew, Mariano Resendez.
Originally, the court wasn't allowing the events that took place on April 2,2006 to be discussed but today the court announced those events will be allowed.
Aside from the testimony, many were intrigued to hear the inner workings of the Zeta drug cartel which was detailed by an informant who used to be a part of the cartel.
The trial for Gerardo Castillo Chavez will resume Monday January 23rd at 9 a-m.
