University of Texas At Austin Questions United's Logo

Since 1963, United High School has been home of the Longhorns.
But so is the University of Texas at Austin, which dates back to the 1880's, and there seems to be some similarities to the two logos.
University of Texas' logo appears to be on benches outside of the school.
UT has been in contact with United Independent School District and has asked them to stop using UT's Longhorn in publications.
"United ISD has been in contact with legal council the University of Texas at Austin. And really United High School has a Longhorn logo that is distinctively the high schools, it belongs to the high school and it belongs to the district."
University of Texas is not asking United High School to stop being the Longhorns, but to use their schools distinct logo on publications... and not UT’s.
There is a difference between the two logos, University of Texas’ Longhorns logo has horns that point almost straight out, while United's are more curved.
"As you can see the horns here (points) with the dip, deep dip in both sides. So they are longer on both sides with that dip there."
University of Texas officials said this was simply a letter trying to work with United High School and said, "We are not asking for money, we are just protecting the Longhorns logo."
This issue has not gone to court.
UISD spokesperson, Veronica Cantu said United has no problem complying with the University of Texas' requests.
"If any student organization or any teacher organization there at the high school uses another logo besides the one that has been designated for the campus, we'll go ahead and let them know."
UISD officials received the letter late in March and are not sure if they will have to replace the benches in front of the school because it was bought. They said they believe the letter was just regarding publications.
