Record-breaking numbers of participating runners showed up to this year's Founding Father's Fun Run and Health Fair.
The run was sponsored by Laredo Medical Center. Over 420 runners enjoyed a crisp cool morning and completed the 5K Run, and later visited the health center for some helpful and potentially life-saving information. WBCA President Joe Palacios challenged all law enforcement groups to join him in running. His challenge was answered by a strong contingent of border patrol agents who ran the 3.7 mile course in formation. They took home the "Fittest Group Award", which was based on the number of attendees participating in a single group. Edinburg's Hector Gandara with a time of 18:44 took home the trophy and cash for the best overall time. In the women's division, the title was claimed by Monterrey's Yessica Guajardo Lopez with a time of 23:30.
Officials at LMC say everyone indulges in the great food and fun that is always part of the WBCA celebrations, but they say it's important to remember your health as well. The hospital provided complimentary screenings that included prostate cancer, cholesterol, and glucose, as well as blood pressure, glaucoma checks and more.
All participants received a Founding Father's 5K Run and Health Fair t-shirt along with a goody bag.
