Webb County 'Haunted Heritage' Exhibit

By KGNS News

With Halloween just weeks away, there are now tours focused on the haunted areas in downtown Laredo like San Augustin Plaza. It's part of the Webb County Heritage Foundation. They have an exhibit featuring some of the most notorious legends.
"We are very lucky because we have such an older community. We have a lot of culture around here and sometimes people are not aware of it."
This is the third year of the haunted heritage exhibit. The myths and legends are displayed with pictures and a brief description of the most notorious tales of occurrences and unexplained phenomena. Garcia talks about the legend of the woman who drowned her children and says it's been passed down by generation.
"In the case of La Llorona, I think it was used to scare children not to go into the water."
Of the many myths and legends that are featured in the haunted heritage, probably the most well know is the chupacabra.
"It has been a ranching community for a long time. I think it's very interesting because people will find cattle or goats there without any blood."
Garcia says the appearance has changed over the years as the legend of the chupacabra gets embellished. He says first it started as an alien creature.
"It goes from being this mythical creature to maybe just being wild dogs."
A new feature the haunted heritage is offering this year which we had a chance to take part in is the ghost walk. We decided which place to go on the map and walked to San Augustin which is said to be built on top of an old cemetery. The radio given to us tells the story of the historic area and events happened in the area. Garcia says he thinks people will really enjoy this new addition.
"You can take your own pace. You can repeat the story as many times as you want."

I know, La Llorona can be the new county fire chief due to her knowledge of water. The chupacabra can run for county commissioner due to its knowledge of sucking blood. All this Laredo heritage is SO INTERESTING…. It makes me want to just scare the cr@p out of someone; you know like a child firing a round at a public gathering. Chucky with a gun.

This is left to be seen.... If they do,,, so much for my 1st Amendment Right. But then again, so much for everyone’s right to free speech. Believe you me; I have been censored into cyber space by Pro Late Nudes on several occasions. How strongly I feel about it determines how far I will pursue it. Thanks for the support… It is appreciated…

That is totally disgusting about that poor dog that was left to die in that cops car. Are all public officials stupid around here? Where's the Chief? Hiding out from an 8 liner indictment? Of course dumb 8 news wont let you blog on THAT. Whats with this news website?

What happened to the work dog is a tragedy. It seems to happen a lot lately but with small children. I will bet that the cop responsible for him is all tore up inside. Partners for all those years; its got to be rough. Hope all works out.
