Laredoans have a chance to rub shoulder with not one, but two World Series champions this Saturday evening. Jorge Posada and Jaime Garcia will both be inducted in the Latin American International Hall of Fame here in Laredo.
Posada is a 17-year veteran of the New York Yankees, where he helped New York win five World Series championships. The 40-year-old, five time all star catcher is reportedly retiring from the sport with a .273 batting average and 275 home runs.
Garcia is a pitcher with the reigning world champion St. Louis Cardinals who has won 13 games each of his two season in the big leagues. He finished 3rd in the Rookie of the Year voting last year, while posting a 2.70 ERA. Garcia played his high school ball at Sharyland, just to the south of us in the valley.
Tickets are available for the event that will be held at the Laredo Country Club. For more information call 723-4389.
