It's the media that the parents allow their children to believe in. For example: If your child believes that the movie "Scarface" is real, then you have failed as a parent. Let them know that it is fictional, and that if they follow in Tony Montana's footsteps, they will either end up in jail, or ...

I also want to add, hell, the medicine cabinet and all the steak knives in my house are under lock and key so my kids 12, 10 and 6 can't get them. Call me over protected but I'd rather be safe then sorry.

I just want to say, it is not the music or the video games. People want to put the blame on everything else except where it actually belongs, the parents and the kid. The parents- because you should never, ever leave a loaded or unloaded gun in plain view where your child can get ahold of. It should have been locked up in a safe and not tell your child where the key is or what the combination is. The kid, cause he should have know better, 12 years old is old enough to know guns are dangerous.

Well, that makes two of us. We should start a club. Anyone want to post something to the contrary and initiate a debate on the issue??? I will entertain any rhetoric on how the shooter is not at fault. The floor is open for discussion.

I agree X-laredo Onda. The kid needs to be punished for his actions too.

A gun is only as dangerous as the person standing behind it!!!! Tell me how a kid that age didn't know what it is or how it works. I'm not saying that the owner or other knowing adults in the house are not culpable; I'm saying that the shooter needs to be held responsible as well. Look through his alligator tears grief and prosecute. He knew what he was doing. Just look at his video game collection. He just wanted to see it for real.
