Car Bomb In Nuevo Laredo Injures Seven

By KGNS News

Residents on both sides of the border were alarmed after hearing an explosion Friday morning. Smoke could be seen for miles, but local law enforcement say they took precaution to make sure there would be no spill-over violence.

"Early this morning we received a few phone calls coming from those neighborhoods close to the Rio Grande on water street, the Azteca."

Phone calls came into our newsroom reporting people felt the explosion at LCC. "They heard the explosion coming from the Mexican side."

Downtown no one wanted to comment, but many were shaken up and described the event as a sonic boom. Our cameras captured video of multiple helicopters circling the area of Nuevo Laredo where an alleged car bombing occurred.

The car bombing took place around eleven in the morning at the city hall building in Nuevo Laredo. Multiple social media websites are reporting that the car bomb went off in the parking garage where the mayor of Nuevo Laredo parks his official vehicle. Both sides of the Rio Grande felt the strength of the explosion. "Our officers in the downtown area indicated that they did see smoke coming from the Mexican side."

Although this violent act took place just miles from the border of the sister cities, there have been no reports of violence in Laredo.

Baeza says contrary to some reports, the bridges were never closed.
"They did deploy officers at the bridges for police presence to make sure we don't have any spill over that comes into the U.S side."

It is being reported that seven people were injured in the explosion. However, there were no fatalities.
