Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez: "In this here I suspect that the volunteers have not come forward because this incident maybe related to cartel members or wanna be members. No one wants to get involved with them cause they are afraid something could happen. They won't volunteer. I'm embarrassed to say i made a contact in Mexico that's supposed to rescue i was told they they realized they're boats don't have any motors so they cant respond."
Gonzalez adds that while local federal agencies have been helpful, he hopes the higher ups in the government urge Mexico to respond so there can either be rescue for Hartley or a proper burial.

Why would it be a hoax no one would benefit and it found out they would we arrested and fined like the balloon boy's parents.

It could be. One theore,what if the wife just wanted to get rid of the husband and staged the whole thing? Or what if its real? When is the government going to pay attention to the border issuses? I say "Bring the troops home and set them on the border so they wont be risking thier lives on forieng soil. Because with all the mexican officials starting to come and live on this side it's only a matter of time until the cartels start following the to kill them,hence spilling over the violence.Milliterizing the border is the only way cost effective way to secure it.

My question is. Where is the Mayor and all Mayoral candidates. Why are they not coming forward and asking our counterparts,in Mexico, who they have a great realationship with to help this family.

Mayoral debates coming up. Laredoans should get involved and ask of this candidates why they were so quiet during this time. Even though this happened in Zapata, we need to know what their thoughts are on issues like this, that are so close to our city.

Laredo and other Border cities should be concern over what is happening in our borders. Enough is Enough we can no longer look the other way. Our Borders have become deadly and makes you wonder who is in control. Close the Borders and deploy the military and law enforcements to block all the drugs and dirty money coming into the US, Stop the Cartels "Declare War", lets go after them and there families, whey are they so protect?

It is a Laredo Problem... Citizens in Laredo should ask the Mayor and all the politicians in that district to demand more protection of the border... Chill Out? Falcon Lake is only 30 minutes from Laredo the main entrance for the drug cartel, DAH! INTERSTATE 35 NOT TO FAR... NEED TO BE CONCERN. Laredo the world is watching, what next explosives going off on 18 Wheelers? There is a problem on the Borders, Former City Mayor Betty Flores had it right, "It is not going to get any better", "the killings will continue" on the border and soon will spill onto the US. Mayor Salinas needs to demand more State and Federal Help

Reminds me of the movie Jaws. Mayor and community leaders did not want to people to know about shark in ocean, until it was a bit too late! That's what is going to happen in our border cities!
