Gunfight erupts in Nuevo Laredo; buses highjacked as roadblocks

Tense moments for many citizens across the border in Nuevo Laredo as a gunfight between members of the Mexican military and armed gunmen broke out shortly before four o’clock Monday afternoon.

According to reports, the fighting started with gunmen hijacking and using city buses as roadblocks.

Many people reported seeing spike strips being used as well.

The two international bridges were closed for a time, and much of the violence flowed up towards the Nuevo Laredo airport.

Many people in Nuevo Laredo documented the series of events on social networks like Twitter as they unfolded.
