We start off our newscast with news out of Nuevo Laredo. That's where the violence of the ongoing drug war continues this time caught in the gunfire the El Mañana newspaper. It's our top story tonight.
An official in northern Mexico says a group of gunmen opened fire on the newspapers building. Tamaulipas state interior secretary Morelos Canseco says the attack lasted five minutes however no video of the incident has been released. This is archive video of the last time they went under attack in 2006. Back then several people injured fortunately this time no injuries were reported. However it's reported that the structure of the building and some vehicles were damaged when the bullets impacted from outside. Canseco did not say whether the newspaper was the target of the shooting Friday night. It's offices however occupy more than half a block with no adjacent buildings . Last week, three photojournalists who covered the crime beat were slain in the neighboring state of Veracruz.
