People who live near the edge of Falcon Lake are watching the waters very closely.
And while some are concerned about their safety, an overwhelming majority of the people we spoke to say they're not.
Instead, they feel the victims may have taken too big of a risk.
As authorities investigate a reported shooting on Falcon Lake, Zapata residents remain stunned but are not convinced the victims did everything possible to stay out of harms way.
“They already had warnings or suggestions not to go across the boundaries into Mexico,” says resident Ron Cousins.
Many drove to the waters edge into a crowd of authorities.
Some didn't want to go on camera, but say the continued claims of gunmen waging war on the waters won't keep them from enjoying the lake.
“Personally, I think they went too far we have boundaries in the lake they took that risk.”
“I have a kayak and go out on the lake and I haven’t seen anything that would make one worry.”
The Zapata county sheriff says the man and woman involved in Thursdays attack were jet skiing near Old Guerrero, Mexican territory he says belongs to cartels and an area people in Zapata say boaters have no business being in.
Residents say the reports of gunmen have taken their toll on the county fishing industry and economy.
Some remain suspicious about what really happened on Falcon Lake.
They hope visitors can see past the isolated incidents.
“We always come to the lake have fun with our friends and we always keep coming back to the lake.”
“Don’t be afraid if you stay on our side you should have no worries.”
Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez says people can be assured they will be safe on Falcon Lake, just as long as they stay out of Mexican waters.
Residents say they saw plenty of law enforcement officers out in helicopters and boats, possibly searching for the victim however authorities tell us he has not been found.

Maybe they should arm the predator drones so if something like this is happening they can blow those SOB's out of the water and make them afraid.
