Former Police Officer Serves Five Years After Falsifying Time Card

A former police officer is sentenced today after being found guilty of cheating the City of Laredo out of hundreds of hours worth of work, it's our top story tonight at six

44 year old Samuel Rodriguez will have to serve five years of probation after being found guilty of submitting falsified time cards on 37 different occasions for which he did not actually work. According to the police investigation, Rodriguez would falsify his employee time cards when he found out his supervisor was not on duty or out of the office. He was reportedly paid more than ninety-seven hundred dollars for time not worked totaling up to two hundred and ninety-six hours which now has to be repaid to the city as restitution.

Rodriguez also has to complete two hours of community service and agreed to resign from the Laredo Police Department. He plead guilty to one county of tampering with a government record back in December of last year. Early this morning, he was sentenced to five years' probation. He will be ordered to serve two years in prison should he fail to comply with the terms of his probation.
