Community members were out early Saturday morning with their garden tools in hand tending to Mother Earth.
Saturday was the 18th Annual Dia Del Rio Clean-up at the LCC Fort McIntosh Campus. Dia del Rio is a bi-national observance that encourages communities along the United States and Mexico border to lead a massive volunteer effort to improve the quality of the Rio Grande and its environmental surroundings. Albeza Duren, a volunteer, says "I do this, because I like it [and] as long as I'm not doing anything at home, why not come out and help the community?"
The clean-up on Laredo's oldest nature trail was organized by LCC Bruni Science Center, Rio Grande International Study Center, the City of Laredo and Keep Laredo Beautiful.
