Southside couple caught selling bargain priced gas out of their home

By Ray Gomez

High gas prices are causing many people to look for cheaper means to get around.
After an anonymous tip this afternoon one couple in south Laredo was caught selling gas at a bargain price.
A source told police residents of a house in a Southside neighborhood were storing large amounts of fuel.
After receiving an anonymous tip, city officials arrive to this house and find several gallons of fuel in unapproved containers.
"Officials say the storing of fuel is not only illegal, it’s dangerous."
"Especially because it’s in a residential area we want to remind folks that the storing of fuel and transportation of fuel in unapproved containers is against city ordinance."
The unidentified caller was concerned, police say, for the homes and residents in the area.
"People were pulling up at the home and actually being serviced and receiving fuel by the people that live there at the house."
The couple was reportedly selling the gas at $2.95 a gallon.
City officials fear that this could be a preview of what's to come with gas prices being so high.
So if you're caught with gallons of fuel, make sure you have the proper permit to transport to gasoline.
"You have to apply for a permit, safety measures have to be in place because again it places property and lives in danger."
The permit was something the couple at this house did not posses.
So there were consequences.
"The fuel has been confiscated and citations have been issued."
The fuel here is dangerous petroleum.
Officials want the public to understand storing large amounts of fuel is not only dangerous for the home where it’s being stored it’s also dangerous for the surrounding homes as well.
Police speculate that the rise in gas prices is making this sort of behavior appealing to motorists with the holiday weekend coming up.
